Story 2: Our History
Gary Bowling’s House of Art has been in operation for over 10 years. During that time, we have stewarded nearly 60 artists, many of whom have gone on to be very successful artists and to make a name for themselves locally, nationally, even internationally. We have provided arts experiences and entertainment free of charge to the community, and hosted many charitable events, classes, lectures, and performances. The Ramsey is our 4th building, but this is the first time in our history that the House of Art owns the building in which we are housed. After several years of work, we opened our doors in August of 2018.
In recognition of our work on behalf of the communities and artists of West Virginia, we received material support for further building improvements in 2019. That support came in the form of a grant from the Shott Foundation, to pay for our new roof, and additional grant support from the West Virginia Division of Arts, Culture and History.
